Beer Can Spinner - Cool Beer in 5 Minutes
I made a previous beer can spinner using an electric drill. It worked well at cooling beer in salted, ice water, but was a little big and noisy for everyday use. This revised beer can spinner uses a battery powered screwdriver to create a smaller, lighter beer can spinner which will cool a can of the amber finest in under 5 minutes.
Another innovation is to spin the can on a block of ice made by freezing a liter of water in an used drink carton rather than muck around with ice cubes and salt-water.
Supplies
- Full aluminium Beverage Can
- Used 1 liter drink carton
- Battery powered drill
- Can clips packaging
- Bolt and nut
- 180 grit sandpaper
Optional:
- 27mm socket
- Can top remover
Clip on Pack
Attaching to a 12mm Socket
The clip-on disk was attached to the electric screwdriver using a socket and a short piece of wooden dowel. A 'persuader' was used to insert the piece of wooden dowel into the socket, then the plastic clip-on was screwed onto the dowel and a drop of super glue added for good measure.
Ready to Roll
A disk of 240 grit sandpaper was fitted into the clip-on for more grip but it has been found the beer spinner works just fine without it. Either way the beer spinner is ready to roll.
Rolling and Results
The can is spun on a 1Kg block of ice created by freezing a liter of water in a used drink carton and then cutting off the side. A grove for the can to rest on is scored using a kitchen knife. The can, attached to the electric screwdriver is placed on the grove and rotated. This will cool a can from 28c to 4c in four minutes of rotation. After 5 minutes of rolling the beer is cooled down to 2c.
What About Cooling Beer Bottles?
With a 27mm socket and a socket adaptor, the Beer Can Spinner will also cool down bottles of beer.
Fit the socket to the adaptor and spin for about twice as long as is needed for an aluminum beverage can - about 10 minutes spinning is required to get a bottle of beer down to 5c.
Cools Wine Too
The spinner will also cool white wine. Pour the wine into an empty aluminium beverage can, seal with a piece of packing tape and then spin for about 3-4 minutes on ice.
Later, I found a better way to seal the can is to first remove the top of the can and seal the wine with 3 layers of cling film before spinning it on ice.
