Batman - Automatic Gaunlet

It is about making a gauntlet for Batman cosplay, with the special feature of automatically deploying the "blades".

Supplies

  • Template for Dark Knight Batman Gauntlets
  • wood or DM panel (flat)
  • 12 small hinches
  • black fishing line
  • small plastic wire gutter
  • 4mm eva foam
  • gesso
  • black vinyl spray paint -metallic black (fulldip or plastidip)
  • 12 neodymium square magnets
  • carbon fiber adhesive vinyl
  • glue
  • small hacksaw

Draw and Cut the Template Gaunlet

  • Draw the Template for Dark Knight Batman Gauntlets on eva foam, and on wood flat. The eva foam is for the gaunlet base and the wooden panel will be glued on top for the automatic blades.
  • Cut the blades from the wood or DM flat with a circular small hacksaw.
  • Sand the edges.


Bends and Strengthens the Base of the Blades

  • Soak the base for the blades in water for an hour and use a jar to shape it. (Spaghetti jar can be fine.)
  • Use a heater for modeling. Be careful not to break.
  • Fix the base during 24 hours.
  • Reinforce with aluminium pieces glued.

Paint the Gaunlet

  • Use Gesso for the gaunlet and blades. 3 layers, 24 hours to let dry between layers.
  • Sand the gesso.
  • Paint with vynl spray paint. 2 or 3 layers, 2hours between.

Fix the Blades

  • Number the blades, because of small differences. All in the correct place.
  • Cut a bit the blades for fix the hinches
  • Glue the hiches to the blades
  • Glue carefully the blades to the base. Check the movement.

Build the Deploy Mechanism

  • Glue the neodymium square magnets over the hinches (2xhinche)
  • Glue small pieces of wood between the magnets.
  • Make small holes on the lateral of the plastic gutter, one for each blade.
  • Insert the fishing line for each hole, enough line, use ¿american? tape to attach to each blade
  • Glue the gutter.
  • Use carbon fiber adhesive vinyl to decorate the gutter.
  • Tie the lines carefully

  • Use the automatic gauntlet to fight The Joker or to surprise the audience by putting the armor in combat mode.
  • There is no automatic mechanism to close the blades. Future improvement
