Basic Windows Clean Up to Save Storage
After tons of browsing, downloading and web surfing, you might notice that your computer is running low on space. This tutorial will show you how to get back that storage so that your computer can still be of use
Getting Started
First, You want to open the windows menu. This can be done by pressing the windows key or clicking on the icon in the bottom left corner.
Open Control Panel
After opening the menu, search for "Control Panel" and open the software. (The Control Panel is a great tool that many people should learn to use. it can help navigate many problems and and issues one you understand how to use it)
Click on "Uninstall a Program"
After Opening the program, under the "Programs" section, there will be a blue link "Uninstall a program". click on this link.
Uninstall a Program
Programs are essential because they allow the computer to be operated in different ways. however, sometimes things are downloaded and only used once. after awhile they will stay and occupy space. If this happens, make sure to uninstall that program.
Uninstall That Program
after that, make sure to click "Uninstall/Change" sometime some programs will have extra steps to uninstall. in that case follows the programs step to step guide on how to uninstall.
Next Open Settings
Back on your home screen, again press the windows key or windows menu. navigate to "Settings".
Click on "Apps"
on this screen there are many options to change the features of windows to cater to your needs. In this case click on "Apps".
Uninstall Unwanted Programs
Many computers and sold with preinstalled software that might slow down your computer and take up space. this is known as bloatware. scroll through this list and uninstall programs you do not use. programs such as "Groove Music", "Print 3D", "Your Phone", and other programs can be removed.
Uninstall
Windows reqires you to press "Uninstall" twice.
Next Navigate to Documents
Again, back at the home screen. press the windows button and navigate to "Documents".
Click on "C:"
The '"C:" Drive is where most of the files used on your computer is stored.
Navigate to Program Files and Program Files X86
Program Files and Program Files x86 are where most Program Files are downloaded to. Navigate between these Files for this step and the next.
Look for Uninstalled Programs
Many Programs after being uninstalled will leave behind files and data. This is done becuase if those programs are reinstalled, they can start where they left off.
Delete the Data From Programs
navigate to these uninstalled programs and delete their data. right click in their data and click delete.
Final Steps
now back to the home screen. most of the time the recycle bin will be on the home screen. If not, search for "recycle bin" in the windows search menu.
"Empty Recycle Bin"
Right click on the recycle bin and click "Empty Recycle Bin". This might seem intuitive, but windows will keep these files until this option is clicked. this is used as a last resort ti retrieve any data that was not meant to be here. After this is clicked, a decent amount of data should be recovered.
