Are you tired of the sawdust mess created by your bandsaw, especially when cutting through thicker pieces - for example when making bandsaw boxes? My bandsaw has a 4” dust port in the lower wheel housing that works ok, but I wanted to do better. So here is my design for a dust collector that mounts just below the bandsaw table and hooks up to my shop vacuum. No modification to the bandsaw is required, and the dust collector port installs and unmounts easily with three magnets. It works exceptionally well, right where the sawdust is generated!

My bandsaw is a 14” Grizzly G0555; the design could be adapted to work with other models and brands. The dust port connector tube is sized for my DeWalt 6 gallon shop vacuum.

Supplies

3d printer

PLA or PETG filament

Three 3/8” by 1/4” magnets

CA glue

3d Printing Parts

The 3d printing is broken down into three parts to minimize required supports during printing: the sleeve/collar, the vacuum connect, and the cap.

The sleeve/collar is printed with ‘organic’ tree support structures - see the image from the Prusa Slicer software. The other two parts do not require supports. Printing on my Ender 3 S1 Pro took 2 hours for the sleeve/collar, 4 hours for the connector, and 1 hour for the cap.

Print the three parts and assemble with CA glue. Be sure to orient the cap correctly, i.e. the cut-out facing the cut-out in the sleeve collar. Check the 2nd picture above for the alignment detail. The ugly white discoloration on the red 3d print is from the CA glue accelerator; it does not affect the function.

Glue the three magnets into the provided recesses.

Mount the dust collector underneath the bandsaw table. The magnets should hold it in place. Connect the vacuum hose, and you are all set! When I run the 4" dust collection along with this shop vacuum adaptor I get almost no sawdust escaping from the bandsaw.

You can remove the dust collector when you need to tilt the table, change the blade, or adjust the guide bearings.
