Gather Ingredients
Makes 4 servings
4 tbls unsalted butter
4 bananas
3/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup dark rum
Slice Bananas
Slice each banana in half and then in half lengthwise.
Mix Dry Ingredients
Mix brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg together.
Make Caramel Sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the brown sugar mixture and vanilla. Stir until the sugar has melted and begins to bubble
Place each banana slice into the caramel sauce. Cook each side until brown. About a minute and a half per side
Remove from heat and take pan to the table..
** For a non alcoholic version add 2/3 cup of pure maple syrup with the brown sugar mixture.
Flambe
Add the 1/2 cup of dark rum. Swirl it around the pan. Light on fire with a long match.
Once the flames die out serve immediately. Put 2 slices of banana side by side. Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center and drizzle with warm syrup.
** For non alcoholic version instead of adding maple syrup, remove bananas from pan and add 1/2 cup of pulp free fruit juice. Put back on stove to warm.
