Banana Stem Fry

Hello Friends I am Ajay from Banjarapalaya E4D makerspace

Learn how to make Vazhathandu Poriyal, an authentic South Indian dish, which I found is a remixed version of this inspirational instructable and made simpler to cook!, Also I used an unripe banana stem for cooking, so it can also be used as a survival food when you don't have much to eat.


If any body wants to to eat this delicious banana stem fry I will show you! I learnt from my mother that banana stem is good for health it is used as a remedy for kidney stones in my village.

Prepare to Cook!

Ingredients

  1. banana stem
  2. onion
  3. chilly
  4. cabbage
  5. oil
  6. spices (coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder)

Materials:

  1. Big Frying Pan
  2. Knife
  3. Ladle
  4. Gas Stove/Induction cooker

Go to Banana Farm

Ask permission to cut the stem of the Banana plant.

Actually we should have cut the stem after harvesting, but we cut it prior to that in order to make the instructable.

Cut the Stem

Take a clean kitchen knife and cut the required portion of the stem as shown in image.

Peel the Outer Covering of the Stem

Now, you should be able to peel off the dirty layers using hand.

Obtain the Central Stem Portion

As shown in the first image, we are pointing at the central part using a knife. We just need this cylindrical tasty portion and eat it! So peel of all other layers

Cut Stem Into Small Pieces

Using the Kitchen knife, cut it and wash it in water to remove the gluey liquid.

Chop Onion, Cabbage and Chilli

Cut onion, cabbage, and chilly into small slices...

Take a Big Pan

Take a big pan and a induction stove, begin heating.

Prepare to Fry!

Put oil as much as required, plus some mustard seeds for traditional Indian Flavor.

Mix the Banana Stem With Other Veggies

Mix the onion,cabbage,banana stem,and chilly in the frying pan.

Fry

Fry everything you mixed for 3 to 5 minutes until onion turns Golden Brown in color.

Spice It Up!

Put salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, ginger garlic paste and chilly powder.

Almost Ready...
