Step 1

Plan on where and how you want to place your materials, try something unique! You should do this by using a drawing app or paper and pencil. If you’re stuck on ideas, you can use google for inspiration.

Step 2

Gather your materials, try to be unique and try new things. When gathering materials you want to think of where you want to shoot and what foods or other materials would work best with that background. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, make something you’ve never made before to shoot.

Step 3

Make sure there isn’t too much empty space making the picture uneven and boring. Make sure the space is positive and not negative, meaning that the space isn’t too boring and there is a minimum amount of blank space.

Step 4

Take a look through the camera. See if the placement is good and make any small changes that you think would make the picture better. If there is too much going on making the picture really busy, take some stuff away. If there isn’t enough going on, add a bit more. Think outside the box!

Step 5

If the picture is well balanced, meaning there is an equal weight on both sides of the photo then continue to step 6. If the picture isn’t very balanced move things around.

Step 6

Take multiple photos to make sure you get the perfect one. Try different angles and techniques to get multiple perspectives and interpretations on the photo.
