Bacon Dispenser
After rolling up some bacon for my previous Instructable, "Cooking Bacon in a Camping Pot," it was only a matter of time before the Bacon Dispenser appeared (credit to gilbertruiz over at threadless.com).
Materials
Bacon
Parchment Paper
Tape Dispenser (with little or no tape left)
Scissors or Serrated Knife
Trim Parchment Paper
Attach Paper to Roll of Tape
Remove tape core and attach parchment paper. Wrap paper around the core one revolution so that the bacon will be in contact with the paper and not the tape.
Start Rolling
Should I wrap the bacon on the inside or the outside of the paper? On the inside, except for the last slice which should be on the outside (see next step). Leave a large gap of paper between slices. The roll shown has 6 slices.
Packaging
Just for fun I included some packaging concepts. As you can see, the last slice was wrapped on the outside to allow the customer to view a representative slice.
Start Unrolling
When you get to the next slice, tear off in the middle of the paper section. Fold the loose end of the paper over the next slice to avoid having to handle the bacon.
Storing
When you are done, fold the loose end of the paper over the next slice and close up the roll. The folded end gives you a handle for the next time. Store the dispenser in a plastic container until the next use.
Addendum
This Instructable was just a fun project to do with the kids, so I removed the tape dispenser and core and stored the bacon roll when we were done.
Interestingly enough, it was convenient to pull slices from the middle (similar to how cleaning wipes are dispensed), so perhaps one day we'll see bacon packaged in semi-reusable containers like this...
