To all novice backpackers out there, getting the right support and assistance on your new backpacking journey is important to me. Here are few but very important FYIs. Whether you are going to to shop for used car in japan sales or taiwan for a business meeting, you always want to know about the best options available.

Choose Your Destination - Best Place to Go and Best Place to Stay

There’s nowhere more reliable to search the safety of location, ease of access, sanitation etc. of your chosen destination and hotel but with TripAdvisor. Unless you have a sponsor or a friend to stay in overseas, then don’t get carried away with a hotel’s website alone.

If you’re traveling on a shoestring budget, then you might consider couchsurfing instead whose local community members offer free accommodation and/or advice.

Transportation

Book early to get the cheapest flights to your destination. Once you’re in the country of your choice, make sure to get familiarized with the public transportation - buses, subways, trains. Always carry a map with you. What good is a GPS anyway in this era of technological advancement? It is very important you know where you are and where you are headed.

Safety Tips

Next to you, your documents should be safeguarded. When travelling, keep a hard copy of your passport and/or visa while gallivanting around the city and a soft copy on your phone. Leave the actual passport in an in-room safe in your hotel or in the hotel reception safe.
