Back to the Future Hoverboard
"Little girl, little girl, stop. Look, I need to borrow your... Hoverboard?" In back to the future part 2 Marty McFly uses a futuristic hoverboard, when he travels to 2015. This project is relatively simple. I've seen multiple hoverboard projects and wanted to make one that is not as challenging or complex as the other hoverboards I've seen. This took about two and a half hours to make, and I'm very happy with how it turned out.
What You Need
-A 1x6 inch fence picket at least 17 inches long.(without the dog ear)
- Strong wood Glue
- A Miter saw
-Hot pink, black, and silver spray paint
-A color printer
-Glossy Mod Podge(and a paint brush to apply it)
-a paper plate
-Cardboard
-Elmer's glue
-Ruler or tape measure
-Compass( for drawing circles)
The Pattern
For the first step I drew some templates and then trace them onto the wood board.
Here are the templates- https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dMelr1aT-agka-4Fp...
Cutting the Board
Using a saw, cut along the lines. For the front . just cut as close to the line as you can. After that, use a rotary tool to trim the board to the right shape.
Sanding
Using a piece of sandpaper, a sanding block, or a sanding machine sand the top bottom and sides until they are smooth.
Cutting Again
For this step you will need to cut the board at a 15 degree angle 1.5 inches from the back, with a miter saw. Once that cut is made, take the bigger side and cut a 10 degree angle right on top of where you had just done the 15 degree cut.
Gluing
This step is relatively simple. First you will need to squirt some wood glue glue across ones of the pieces. After that, line the two pieces together so the back is raised up higher than the front. Once they are together clamp them together like in the picture. Leave the board out for at least four hours.
Painting
For this step I used Florescent Neon Pink spray paint to cover the whole board, and let it dry for about an hour.
Decals
For the decals I used this template http://www.zubcic.com/pdf/Mattel_Hoverboard_Decals... I scaled it to -- and then printed them out in color. Once the decals have been printed, cut them out and then use glossy Mod Podge to glue them down.(You can use spray adhesive, but it won't feel as nice as Mod Podge) I did two coats for each side, but you may need to do three, depending on how well the first coat sticks.
Making the Bottom Details
For the hover plates, I cut two 3 inch diameter circles out of cardboard and two 3 1/2 inch diameter circles. When I had cut all four circles out I sanded them down until they were perfectly round and smooth. Once that was done I painted the bigger two black, and the smaller two, silver. After that I glued the smaller circles onto the larger ones, with Elmer's glue.
Attaching the Hover Plates
To attach the hover plates, use Elmer's glue and make a spiral around the bottom of the plate. After that, line it up where it should be on the board, and push it down. Do the same thing for the other one. Once they are both on, use a paper towel to carefully wipe of any excess glue. Finally let it dry for at least twenty minutes.
Finished
Finally, the hoverboard is complete. I hope you enjoyed this project.
