BYOC Overdrive II Kit
This is just my documentation of building the BYOC Overdrive II to TS808 specs.
This is not an instruction on how to make the pedal, there is a manual downloadable from BYOC for that.
The Kit
I ordered the kit with some sort of polishing sponge.
The kit comes with some extras that differ from the original TS808, those are popular mods that people make. There is also an option to get MOSFETs instead of diods and this kit is prepared to work with the MOSFETs.
Polishing
Result after polishing it a bit with the sponge.
Primer
And then gray primer.
Paint
Green spray paint in a shade that was the closest to original TS808 I could find in a local store.
Soldering
Then I started soldering the components.
Complete Board
With all the components in place.
In this picture two wires are in the wrong position which made the pedal work with battery power but as soon as I connected a 9 Volt adapter it stopped working. Switching those to wires fixed that.
All in all this was suppose to be 4 out of 5 in difficulty but I would say it is pretty easy if you take your time and think things through. The instructions are not that clear and in my opinion makes it a bit harder.
However there a lot of components to solder in a small space so you need a steady hand and a lot of patience.
You also need to carefully dismount and remount the board from the enclosure a few times before you are finished.
Finished
Finished pedal except for labels that I will make and add later.
In Action
And here with it's buddy, my Moody Fuzz.
Adding a Label and Some MOSFET Mods
I made a label in Photoshop using a template for 125B boxes from a forum. I can send it to you if you want but you will probably have to adjust it as the holes in my box was not fully aligned so I think they might differ from box to box.
The label was printed on Avery L7567 transparent adhesive paper. This was not a water label so sticking it to the box was a bit of a hassle.
It was then clear coated with three layers.
I also made the MOSFET mod to the input buffer and the clipping so that's what the lower switch does, switching between TS (Tube Screamer type clipping), FL (Full, no clipping) and MF (MOSFET clipping).
The upper switch is the same as before. It serves as EQ with FL (Full, more bass), TS (Midrange hump) and FT (Fat, even more bass).
