Introducing the funnest way to prepare a potato.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • A potato
  • A pot (for boiling the potato)
  • A plate (for cooling and decoration)
  • Matches (for the firecracker)
  • A firecracker (for the BOOM)

Boiling the Potato

Place potato in a pot of water and heat to a boil.

Boil the potato until it is soft enough that you would consider eating it (instead of blowing it up).

Cool the Potato

Let the potato cool until it's cool to the touch.

(The last thing you want is steaming-hot tater-shrapnel all over you.)

Cut Hole in Potato

Using a screwdriver, small knife, or pumpkin-carving kit, cut a firework-size hole in your potato.

Insert Firework

Place the firework inside the potato until only the wick is emerging.

(The softer the potato, the easier this step will be.)

Ready for Plating

Now that the potato is cool and there is a firecracker inside it, place the newly-fused potato on a plate. This will help stabilize the potato and prevent it from rolling while you light the wick.

I additionally put my potato+plate on a table, but placing it on the ground probably works just fine.

BOOM!

Light the wick. Run away. Enjoy!

PRO TIP: Shouting "BOOM POTATO" after the explosion makes it way more fun.
