Inspiration:

The droid I designed was inspired from BD-1 from the Star Wars Jedi games. I really enjoyed the games and loved the design of BD-1 so the droid I made was designed to be the taller older brother to the droid from the games. I had recently seen that Disney had their own version that was walking around the Disney World parks and combined with the love I have for the games it inspired me to do my own take on the design of the BD platform. Originally I had envisioned a droid that was a large ship repair droid, but as I started to model the head of BD-77 I pivoted to a companion droid. I had recently seen that Disney had their own version that was walking around the Disney World parks and combined with the love I have for the games it inspired me to do my own take on the design of the BD platform.

Design:

I had originally started out with a rough sketch of what I wanted to design, however I wasn't able to quite land on what I wanted my droid to be able to do. I was halfway through designing the body of my original idea which was to have my droid be a ship repair droid when I made the switch from the component being a body to it being the head. From there I worked my way down from the head to feet. All together I made 11 parts that modeled and painted in the software. BD-77 stands a little over 2.5 feet tall and belongs in the Republic Era of Star Wars. I chose the republic insignia because growing up my brother and I would watch the Clone Wars show all the time and with the ending of the Bad Batch show I thought it would fit perfectly. This was an amazing experience and my first time truly modeling something in Fusion 360, I have worked with AutoCAD and Inventor before so it wasn't challenging to figure out how things worked and I had a lot of fun designing my Droid.

Purpose:

The purpose of my droid was to be made as a companion that would travel the galaxy with either a Jedi or a squad of clone troopers. There are two antennas on the back of the head that are able to rotate which can be used to show emotions as well as receive signals. On the right side of BD-77 there is a foldable arm that when extended there is a claw on on side and a scomp link on the other side for accessing terminals. On the back of BD-77 there is a holo-projector and a port for data cards similar to the ones we see in Rogue One and A New Hope that contain the Death Star plans on them. Overall BD-77 is like a dog, he will be by your side and be your companion.
