Here we are again with one of my personal obsession: BB-8.
This is the 4th Instructable on this subject (feel free to take a look at the other ones).
Anyway, on the 14th of December the Episode VIII of Star Wars (The Last Jedi), will be released at the cinemas all over the world.
I was looking at the pumpkins I bought a couple days ago and I thought: "Ok, let's make BB-8!".
Basically you just need to buy 1 small pumpkin for BB-8 head and a bigger one for his body.
Finding 2 pumpkins perfectly rounded is not an easy task, but don't be discouraged!
There is always one side of any pumpkin that looks more spherical, therefore you can show that one.
For this Instructable you need:
2 pumpkins
silver painting (water based)
1 marker
2 zip ties for the antennas
1 cutting tool for pumpkin (if you are an adult you can use very carefully a kitchen knife).
5 candles (WARNING!!! If you are a child ask the help of an adult to light the candles.
Once the candles are lighted, keep the pumpkin outdoor, away from flammable things, always supervising the pumpkin itself.)
Making BB-8 Head and Gutting the Pumpkin
Basically you just need to buy 1 small pumpkin for BB-8 head and a bigger one for the body.
Finding 2 pumpkins perfectly rounded is not an easy task, but don't be discouraged.
There is always one side of any pumpkin that looks more spherical, therefore you can use that one.
Although to cut the pumpkin there are amazing tools that seem to be harmless, please remember that
the skin of the pumpkin is very hard to cut, therefore if you are child, always ask the help of an adult.
Find a good picture of BB-8 and start drawing the pumpkin.
If you want to be super accurate, just type BB8 panels on Google and you'll get a lot of pictures that you can use as an example.
Cut the base of the small pumpkin, in order to have a semi-spherical shape.
And now, the most annoying part: gutting the pumpkin!
Once you have finished this tedious phase, removing all the pulp, you can start to scrap the interior part of the pumpkin, that you can use to prepare a soup.
Painting BB-8 Panels & Cutting Off the Orange Parts
After an accurate analysis, I've decided to reverse BB-8 colours, leaving the main parts orange and lighting using white candles placed inside BB-8 body, the removed parts that normally are orange. Thanks to this choice I had to paint in silver just the small parts of the panels.
When you cut the panel, to leave the centre of it nearly "suspended", you have to keep a small piece at the base of the circle. Being at the bottom, it will be barely noticeable and it looks good.
