B3 Hat(BBB Hat) : the Big Black Bug Hat!
Note it down for the Halloween. Rest, is the theory part!
I got a old umbrella that got damaged due to chemical solution spread on it. But only the body/fabric part has burnt. And the ribs are good. So planned to make use of the 8 ribs to symbolise a big bug with 8 legs and mount it on top of a card board painted white.
The mind and hand worked together swallowing my 80% sleep time for past 2 days. Find out, what the detailed work i put, has made me to stretch!
Let's get into the tutorial directly!
Supplies
Most of the supplies are common.
T-shirt yarn
White glue
Scissors
White and black colour sheets
Cardboard box, as the main hat structure
Waste newspapers
Rubber based plastic covers for bugs outer shell
Make the BASE Structure
For the base structure, i am using the ribs of the umbrella to symbolise the 8 legs of the bug with the inner shell.
To make the umbrella stand on the same position, i used metal strings to tie at the connecting place of the ribs with the main stem.
Features of the Bug: the Making!
To make the base structure of the bug, i used the wrapper(s) with which online products were received.
As i required the bug to in black colour, i inverted the cover to use the black colour inner side.
In order to make the bug to be bulged out, i stuffed it with crushed newspapers to form the inner layer. I made use of brown colour cellulose tape at the outer layer of the cover, to make it the bug shape.
Head and Body:
To make the head and body part, i used small pouches, stuff with crushed newspapers. Now the head and body part are inserted into the main pouch. To make it look bulged out, i tie a black thread at the the in between space of the head and body part.
Eyes:
Black and white chart paper were cut into shapes.
Lips/smiley feature:
For the smiley feature, i just used a simple red colour thick sheet.
The BIG BUG Work!
The Big bug work is to, to make the black layered outer shell with the T-shirt yarn.
It took 80% of the total work time, to make the layer of the 8 legs and the body with the black yarn tied to the ribs of the umbrella, by laying knots across all the ribs. So just imagine :-S
If i just simply wrap over/painted with black paint, it will not reflect a bug at all. So the hand work is made for the replication.
Making of White Portion
To make the white box like portion, with which the bug is to be mounted i used a card board box and pasted white colour paper all over the box.
Miscellaneous Work
I made a small hole at one side of the white box, with which the stem of the umbrella would be inserted.
I used acrylic colours to write on the box.
Final Assembly!
Now, Lets Go for a Photoshoot!
The Big Bug hat is ready for the occasion :)
