These light switch covers are easy to make, and they are awesome gifts. A few months ago, when I started decoupaging things, I decided to try decoupaging light switch covers, and I had great success. I am glad to be able to share this instructable with you.

Supplies

  • paper cutter
  • newspaper
  • printed image
  • paint brush
  • disposable plastic lid
  • Elmers school glue
  • light switch cover
  • water
  • x-acto knife
  • Plasti Dip spray

Cutting the Image

Color print an image.

Then cut the image out, so that it is just barely smaller than the light switch cover.

On the disposable plastic lid, throughly mix one part water with one part Elmers school glue.

Using a paint brush, paint the mixture onto the light switch cover.

Next paint the mixture onto the back of the image.

Carefully align the image on the cover.

Then paint a thin layer of the mixture on the top side of the image. Note on the top side of your picture, the mixture will look slightly cloudy when you paint it on. Don't worry. It will dry clear. Also note, that the glue on top of the image will separate into little droplets. This is normal.

Adding the Holes

Using one of the screws that was included in the light switch cover package, gently press it through the paper where the screws to form the screw holes.

Next, using an x-acto knife, cut out the section on the image where the switch will be.

Glue and Plastic Dip

Paint one final layer of the glue mixture over the completed light switch cover.

Last of all, spray Plastic Dip over the image to make it water proof.
