Autodesk Ambassador: Talking to a Class

I spoke to the classmates in my fluid dynamics class about the upcoming Autodesk engineering contests (make it small/move/fly).

  1. Slideshow about the contests: include how to enter the competition, a few ideas on things to make, and how the contest relates to what we learn at uni.
  2. Timeslot: coordinate with a professor to get some speaking time during their class.

Choose a Topic

Decide what you might want to tell your audience about. Is it an upcoming event or contest? A software or skill?

Coordinate With a Professor

Pick a class where your topic will be relevant. It might be helpful to have a backup class just in case it doesn't work out with the first class. Talk to the professor and ask to speak for a few minutes at the beginning or end of their class. Make sure to explain what you will be talking about, and have a timeline for how long your presentation will be and what day you'd like to speak. Be flexible!

Make a Slideshow

Using google slides or powerpoint, make a few short slides about your topic. Include lots of images, and not too many words to keep your audience interested. Add some speaker notes for yourself to make sure you mention every key point.

Make sure to share the file with your professor!

Present

I found that people listen better when your presentation is interactive. Ask questions and call on people, or have some kind of quick survey. Thank the professor for giving you some of their class time, and if possible, follow up with your audience about what they thought of your presentation.
