Artistic Souffle Cheese Omelet
I love a nice fluffy omelet for breakfast or brunch. You can do so many things with them and flavor them in so many ways. I was inspired for this Instructable by the foccacia breads that I have seen that were decorated with cut up vegetables making flower designs on the bread. I figured it would also be pretty on a fluffy omelet! It's fun to play with your food and be artistic! You can follow along with this Instructable to see how you can easily make one! Your entire family can each enjoy making one for themselves! They are so pretty and very tasty!
Supplies
Ingredients
2 large eggs
salt and pepper to taste
2 teaspoons butter
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3 cherry tomatoes
Medium red onion
Spring onions, green part only
Cilantro leaves
Tools Needed
9-inch skillet with cover
1 cereal size bowl
rubber scraper
sharp knife
butter knife
fork
spatula
cutting board
mixer with whip attachment
mixing bowl
Separate and Beat
Crack the eggs and carefully separate the whites from the yolks. Be careful not to get any yolk into the egg whites. The whites go into the bowl of your mixer. The yolks go into a cereal sized bowl. Beat egg yolks with desired amount of salt and pepper for 1 minute or until slightly thickened.
Beat Egg Whites
In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat egg whites until they form soft peaks.
Now Combine
With a rubber scraper, carefully fold yolks into the beaten whites until no streaks remain.
Melt Butter
In 9-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add and Cover
When the butter is sizzling, add egg mixture, spreading it into an even layer with a spatula.
Cover pan; reduce heat to low. Cook omelet for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and uncover.
Add Cheese
Sprinkle the cheese over the top of the omelet.
Cut the Onion
Cut a slice off of the side of the red onion and thinly slice.
Cut the Tomatoes
Cut each of the cherry tomatoes in half.
Make Stems
- Use three spring onions to form flower stems on the omelet.
Make Flowers
Arrange the cherry tomato halves and onion slices forming flowers.
Add Leaves
Use the cilantro leaves to make the leaves of the flowers.
Finish Cooking
- Return the pan to low heat. Cover and cook for 2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the omelet is golden brown on the bottom.
