Artistic Pumpkin Face Sculpted From Clay 🎃

Pumpkin carving on Halloween is a well known tradition, which is popularly known as jack-o'-lanterns. Back then, these lanterns were made with potatoes or turnips, but after Irish immigrants arrived in America, a new Halloween ritual was born using pumpkin. As art and craft have a noticeable impact on various activities of Halloween, we tried to present the pumpkin with a twist of goofiness.

Materials Needed:

• Air Dry Clay
• Acrylic colour
• Lacquer spray

Tools:

• Clay curving tools
• Paint brushes

• At first, we take 200 g of clay. Here we have used air dry clay, but you can also use art clay if you want. Since air dry clay is lighter than the usual art clay and very easy to mould, we've used this. So, first, we shaped two spheres with air dry clay, one small and the other a bit bigger than the first sphere.
• Then we placed the small sphere on top of the bigger sphere and smudged the upper sphere with the lower one. While doing this, we have to mould it into a tall pumpkin shape.
• Then, to give our pumpkin face its eyes, we scratch the head area with a wooden clay curving tool, and then we make small balls of clay and place them onto the scratches so they get attached properly to the head of the pumpkin. Make sure to stick the eyes properly, otherwise they'll fall.
• Now to give our pumpkin its nose, we have to scratch the lower midportion of the eyes and then mould a small quantity of clay into a thin stick-like structure and then place it between the eyes. This structure kind of separates the two eyes. After this, create another small ball of clay and place it beneath the long structure to give the pumpkin its full nose.
• Now make small, thin shapes with clay to give the pumpkin its eyebrow and place it above the eyes.
• Then again, make small, thin shapes and place them below the eyes. Then smudge this part to make the bottom lids of the eyes.
• Now to give our goofy smile a joker-like curve, place a lip beneath the nose, and take a very small amount of clay to make a tooth. Then place it at any corner of the lip.
• Take a wooden clay sharpener tool to make the textural lines of the pumpkin.
• After this, take another quantity of clay, roll it, and give it the shape of the peduncle of the pumpkin. Then place it above the head of the pumpkin.
• To give the pumpkin something to sit on, create a round, flat base with the clay.

• Now, finally, we colour our pumpkin with bright orange, yellow, red, and green.
• We have used acrylic colour in this process.
• In the body, we have brushed on the bright yellowish orange colour to paint.
• On the peduncle, we have used green.
• To highlight the texture of the pumpkin, use a deep red or maroon color; red on the lips; and white for the teeth.
• Use green and black to make the eyes' pupils; white for the eyeball; and after this, to add a little more, use red colour to paint the blood veins on the eyes.

• We used the same air dry clay of about 40-50g and made it flat.
• Using a round jar-cap we made a cut on it to get a flat and perfectly round and even pedestal.
• We coloured it black using acrylic colours.
• And finally, to give it a shiny finish, we sprayed lacquer on it and kept it aside for a while to dry.
