Arrow Plane Project
The objective of this project is to simulate another manufacturing process that will produce a product according to a customer order. In this manufacturing process, will will use the same concepts we have used before:

Project Objective
You and your team work at a company that manufactures airplanes. You have just
received the plans for a hot new model and customers are already placing orders. The first order is as follows:
• 4 blue planes with orange tails
• 3 yellow planes with yellow tails
• 3 orange planes with yellow tails
Remember: do not begin work on this order until you have a production plan!

Raw Materials and Assembly
Raw Materials: The company receives raw materials in the form of paper. This paper comes in a standard sheet size of 8.5 x 11 inches and comes in three varieties: orange, yellow and blue. Other colors may be substituted through a design change process. Design changes may come at any time and require fast action on our part to make the change and still meet the customer delivery date.
DESIGN
Parts: Each plane is made up of two parts: The body and the tail. You must cut or tear your raw materials into the dimensions needed to make these parts. The dimensions are:
• Tail: 2.5 x 8.5 inches
• Body: 8.5 x 8.5 inches
Part numbers: Part numbers are crucial to inventory control. When you begin making parts, assign a unique number to each type. For example, an orange tail piece might have a part number of 1001, while a blue tail piece might have a part number of 1002. The prefix number of "100" is useful for quick identification of tail parts. An orange body piece could have a part number of 2001, while a blue body piece could have a part number of 2002. The prefix of "200" makes body pieces easy to identify.
You must also assign a part number to each type of fully-assembled plane that your company manufactures. In your report, include a list of all the part numbers you assign and their corresponding part names.
MATERIALS
You will be provided with the follow materials:
5 Sheets of orange paper
5 Sheets of blue paper
5 Sheets of yellow paper
10 Sheets of plain white paper
1 ruler/straightedge
1 pair of scissors

Deliverables
At the end of this project, each team should have produced the following that will turned in as a package:
- The number of airplanes that were ordered built to the specifications
- A production plan that outlines the team members, their responsibilities, and how each part was uniquely identified. Also discuss if there were any design changes and how you handled the requested changes.
- A QC tracking sheet that is completely filled out
- A summary report that details how the project went with your team. In this report you will include all details: materials used, how each step of the process worked, problems encountered and solutions, and evaluation of how each team member contributed ( or didn't) to the project.
Performance on this project will be evaluated using the attached rubric.

Manufacturing
The required number of parts are to be produced according to strict manufacturing standards. A visual guide for folding all the parts is provided. QC will determine how well these standards were met.
Assembly
Assemble the parts as requested by the customer to meet the needs of the customer's order. Add an assembly plan to the production plan if needed.
Quality Control
Quality control is an important step in manufacturing. Use the chart provided that lists the following qualities with a space to rate how well these were accomplished:
Sharpness of creases*
Smoothness of paper edges*
Body width (wingtip-wingtip)
Body length
Tail length
Tail width
Plane length (nose-tail)
AT NO TIME DURING THE PROJECT ARE YOU REQUESTED TO CONDUCT A TEST FLIGHT OF THE AIRPLANE.
