Arctic Yarnballs

A zany but delicious summer treat, I totally just made up these arctic yarnballs. The frozen cream is colorful and indulgent, and the digestives pair perfectly with the ice cream with their soft crunch. It is also simple and easy to make. These would be perfect for a cat-themed party. Maybe snow-leopard-themed?

You will need:

  • Ice cream, I used vanilla
  • Digestive cookies (or graham crackers)
  • 1/2 C heavy whipping cream
  • powdered sugar
  • vanilla
  • food coloring

Make the Whipped Cream

Whip the heavy cream until it forms stiff peaks. Mix in 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla. Divide the cream into little bowls and add 1 small drop of food coloring each for desired colors.

Prepare Ice Cream

Put a round ball of ice cream on top of a digestive cookie. Only do one at a time, putting the tub of ice cream back in the freezer in between.

Pipe on the Whipped Cream

Add one color of whipped cream to an icing bag equipped with a fine round tip. Pipe on the whipped cream, creating tangled yarn shapes. When not piping, keep the icing bag in the fridge. Put the yarn ball in the freezer for 10 minutes, uncovered, or for up to 3 days, in an airtight container. Serve immediately upon taking out of the freezer.

I would suggest only one color per yarn ball. I tried to do rainbow, but it didn't turn out very well.

Admire and Enjoy!
