April Fool Clock

IMG_20230221_064849_275.jpg

This is my first Instructables. I've been wanting to do this clock since I found an instructables for reversing your time mechanism. No one understood what I was talking about until I made it. Can you tell what time it is? Remember the clock is in reverse mode. Hopefully it will create as much confusion as mine has. Have fun!

Supplies

Reverse time piece (or use the instructions from the instructables)

1/8" wood of your choice

Clock image (depends on if you are using a printer or engraving)

Determining Size

Whether you have a printer or laser. Decide how big your clock will be. Mine is 14 inches due to the size of my laser. I was going to give you my download file but it is not supported.

Designing Clock

Start your design. I have RD Works, those files are attached if you want them.

Cutting the Image/engraving

For me I used 1/4” wood and had to burn a square so that the time piece would fit through. Had to make 2 passes before I could fit the nut. Once that was done then I cut the hole for the time piece plus the clock circle. Flipped the clock over and then engraved the numbers onto the clock. Hint: placement of the numbers were tricky on my first one as I did not know how to place them in RD Works. 2nd take: Took an image of a clock face and placed individual numbers over the existing image, deleted the image and had my clock. Don’t do like I did and make sure the numbers are going in the right direction. (correction left direction)

Time Piece

Install the time piece. In my case making sure the April/4 is facing the top. Let it run to make sure it is telling the correct time.

Can You Tell What Time It Is

Set the time and then come back a few minutes or even hours later to see if you can figure it out. It will take time to retrain your brain to actually look at the clock hands. Show to your spouse or friend and see if you get the same responses. Cannot put the responses on here but you can figure it out.

Have fun and see if your mind can adjust to the confusion it creates.
