Apple of Your Eye
°I used vibrant (& very fragrant;) Red Delicious Apples; they're already soft textured (for "spoonability") and their shape offers slices in various sizes.
°Two desserts, will take 2 - 3 apples- depending on the size of dish you use; my goblets are extra large, but I layered about four or five slices (discs) in each. For this simple, but DELICIOUSLY delightful treat you'll need:
Supplies
1/2 - 1 Cup Apple Juice (optional; water can be used)
Juice of 1 Lime
Juice of 1 Can of Pineapple (optional)
Ice Cream (-Vanilla, at least a pint) or Yogurt
Sauce pan
Apple & Ice Cream Prep
** they will be "star" shaped
•Drizzel some lime and pineapple juice on each slice for color freshness
•Have your ice cream softening *yogurt can also be used*
** Homemade ice cream would be extra special
•Once you have all your slices ready, pour your juices into a sauce pan and heat on low
Heat Low and QUICK
•Once you have all your slices ready, pour your juices into a sauce pan and heat on low
•You just want to heat/poach slightly- low and quick, just about a minute or two on each side
•Flip once -you want to maintain the deep red color of the apple skin while getting them a little softer -"Scoopable/Spoonable" in your layered dessert.
** ~the apple slices and the juice{s) sort of "infuse" each other with their fruity flavors~**
•Pull them out to cool
Layer (& Savor) the Flavors
•Stir the poaching liquid / pan drippings into your ice cream (or yogurt) and refreeze / chill
•~Once chilled enough to spread on slices~:
•Layer apple slices and ice cream, alternating each, into dish(es) of your choice
•A Great Treat Anytime!
°But I can't wait to candy some orange slices & layer with blackberry-dark chocolate pudding (for Halloween) AND layer red AND GREEN APPLES for a Frosty Christmas Delight.
