Antique Collector Spoon Ring

Browsing through a swap meet I came across a nice collectors spoon.
I managed to get it in with a bulk deal and was wondering what I could do with it...
That thought didn't last long when I remembered there was a rings contest on Instructables!
So, here you have it - Instructions on how to turn a collectors spoon into an awesome ring!
**NOTE**
This works best with collectors spoons for a few reasons:
- They have a copper core making them easy to bend into shape.
- Silver is quite good for you so when you wear the ring you absorb the silver.
- They normally have a large relief picture which makes a great gem.
So, lets get started!
Measure and Cut.

First, cut a strip of paper so it will wrap around your finger.
Lay this on the spoon to make sure it will fit once turned into a ring.
Once you have determined that your spoon is suitable you can go ahead and cut it.
I recommend using a sturdy pair of wire cutters, it is only soft copper that the spoon is made of.
When the spoon is cut at your mark you can move on to the next step :)
Bending the Ring.

This step outlines the main advantages of using a collectors spoon - they are normally copper and silver - that means they are easy to bend into shape!
Grab the section of spoon you cut and grab it with your thumbs on the inside and the pointer fingers on the designed side.
Now bend the spoon slightly at first to get the feel of ending copper and then bend it into a ring.
Towards the end of the bending process you may choose to employ the power of some pliers because there is not much metal left for your finger to grip and lever.
This is fine - just protect the ring-to-be with a clean rag or cloth of some sort.
Once the ring is bent most of the way it is a good idea to test if it fits your finger, any errors now can still be corrected.
When the ring is fully bent there is no need for soldering, the copper will hold the ring shape for a long time!
Now you (or the person you are making this for) can wear a nice silver plated ring with a unique design!
Thanks for reading, please share this 'ible and could you please throw a vote my way in the rings contest?!
