"Anti-Gravity" Wheel

Fun with Anti-Gravity Wheel | Gyroscopic precession

In this Instructable, we are going to make a Gyro wheel.

A wheel that can be balanced on different objects while it's spinning.

In the "gif" picture above, you can see a 1kg/2.2lbs wheel, spinning vertically around the rope.

If you have not seen a gyroscope or you're not excellent in physics (that would be me), you would expect that the wheel should spin horizontally.

I got this 1kg/2.2lbs wheel. Not that the weight matters, I just wanted to know how heavy it was.

I decided to use a little stick for the axle.

I drilled a hole and pushed in a match to hold the wheel.

Great alternative for the match is a hair pin.

I put on the wheel and marked a point for the second hole.

After drilling a second hole, I covered the area between the holes with electrical tape, so it's a tighter fit.

I pushed in the second match and used a glue for the extra security.

The wheel was ready.

I spun it with an angle-grinder and put it on the bottle neck to see the "magic".

What I learned from this project:

If you use a wheel that heavy and small, make sure to do it outside and wear a protective equipment.

I dropped it a few times - it nearly hit my computer.

Touching a wheel that is spinning so fast is the same as touching your bicycle wheel while you're riding it.

If you don't have gloves and you accidentally touch the wheel - be prepared to look for an adhesive bandage :)
