Bat Man Animatronics

The animatronics Bat Man has two functions. First it can talk some quote from the movie. Second, the animatronics can move the mouth and the eye left and right. When the ultrasonic sensor at left and right are detected the eye moves to left and right.

The supplies for animatronics are Arduino uno, servo motor, ultrasonic sensor, photocell, speaker, etc.

Making Chassis

For the first step we imagined the chassis of the robot and where we need to put all the components. After brainstorming a few layouts we felt the layout as shown in the picture works best for us. Where, we selected a box and made a partition in it, where the upper level would hold the mechanism for the eyes and the lower level would hold the mechanism for the mouth and the circuit.

Arduino Circuit for Bat Man Animatronics

We made the circuit with the UNO R3, ultrasonic sensor, servo motor, speaker, photocell, and resister.

We tried to put the circuit of the speaker but there wasn't any file for Tinker Cad so we just add some photo for that.

{instruction for the speaker circuit}

Brown-5V

Blue-Ground

White-connected to 1k resister then connected to digital pin 7

Black(in the middle)-digital pin 6(UNO R3)

Red, Black-speaker

For the third step we wanted to make a joint that makes the eye so it moves left and right and also make a joint that makes the mouth move up and down when the character is talking. So, here our initial idea was to 3d print the joints directly from a stl file we found online. We did 3d print it however we could not implement it to our project because the servo motors were not powerful enough to move the joint. So we moved on to plan B, that is making the joints using popsicle sticks as shown in the picture which was much less attractive than what we initially had planned but it did the trick.

We made the four bar linkage with the popsicle sticks. Make a hole in each side at the popsicle sticks (3 of it), and made 2 of popsicle sticks that have a hole in each side and the middle. connect the popsicle sticks with the nuts and bolts. Then glue the servo motor at the popsicle sticks middle and make another pillar with the bolt and screw to make the bar parallel.

We glue all of the eye joint, mouth joint, the face, eye, mouth and breadboards. Also, made a hole at the top of the box to put the photocell and made two hard papers to cover the background. We also made a small cover for the photocell to be covered in dark and activate the system when the cover is lifted.

Programming

We made the animatronics to activate when its bright. If its dark, it doesn't work. When the ultrasonic sensor detects something at the left side the Bat Man will look left side and say "I'm Bat Man" and right side it also looks right side and say some quote from the movie. While saying it the mouth will also move.
