Amigurumi Octopus
This is the first time i've made a crochet pattern and the first time i've make an instructable, so i hope everything i've writen down makes sense. Also, english is my second language so be kind on any spelling mistakes.
What do you need to make this octopus:
Yarn- 1 ball of yarn in whatever colour you like, I used purple.
Some white yarn for the eyes.
Some black (or another dark colour) yarn to embroider the pupils.

Make the Body
The body (make 1):
Round 1- Make a magic circle with 6 sc.
Leave a long end if you want to make a haning loop when you are done

Round 2- *2 sc in each st around - 12 sts.
Round 3- *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 sts.
Round 4- *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 sts.
Round 5- *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 30 sts.
Round 6- *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 40 sts.
Round 7/18- Sc in each st around.
Fill and Close the Body
To stuff the body I used a bit of an old shirt and a piece of rolled up sock. The soft piece of shirt forms a nice filling for the top part of the head, while the roll provides a nice flat surface for your finished octopus to sit on.
But some more traditional filling will do fine as well.

Now continue to crochet the body closed.
Round 19- *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around – 30 sts.
Round 20- *Sc2tog, sc in next st, rep from * around – 20 sts.
Round 21- *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around – 16 sts.
Round 22- *Sc2tog, rep from * around – 8 sts.
Round 23- *Sc2tog, rep from * around – 4 sts.
Cut the yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end into blunt needle and gather sts tightly tog. Fasten off.
Make the Legs
The legs (make 8…obviously):
Round 1- Make a magic circle with 6 sc.
Round2- *2 sc in each st around - 12 sts.
Round3/12- Sc in each st around.
Stuff the leg now. I used pieces of an old shirt for this. But other soft filling will do as well.
Fold the opening closed and stitch together with 6 sc.
Fasten off leaving a long end. You can use this end to sew the leg to the body.Make the Eyes
The eyes (make 2):
Round 1- Make a magic circle with 6 sc.
Round2- *2 sc in each st around - 12 sts.
Fasten off leaving a long end. You can use this end to sew the eye to the body.
Assembly
Sew the octopus together.
To get the legs evenly spaced, start by attaching four legs opposite each other. So: 12 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 9 o’clock. Then fit in the 4 remaining ones.
Then sew on the eyes. You can place them where you want, but be careful not to put then centred above one leg. The leg might otherwise end up looking more like a trunk.
Next embroider some pupils. You might want to try this a few times to find the right spot, as they (together with the eyes themselves) very much define the octopus’ expression.
Finally tie the long end you left on the top of the head into a hanging loop, and you’re done!
