Do you love RPGs & tabletop games but are bored of plain minis? Read on!

Each character has so many details but the minis felt a little boring without color so I decided to try and paint my minis to help bring them to life. This is a SUPER easy way to take your mini to the next level.

Supplies

You will need the following:

•RPG or tabletop minis
•Acrylic paint
•Fine tipped paint brushes
•Wood stain
•Finish, clear spray paint or Polyurethane spray (I prefer matte).
•Paper towels

Prep Minis for Painting

Start by washing your minis off with soap and water. This will clean off any oils or residue that may prevent the paint from staying on.

Prime the Minis

Start by priming the minis with white paint. This just needs to be a quick outer layer so don't get too detailed yet. Add a drop of water to your brush to thin out the paint if it is too clumpy.

Paint!

Once the white paint is dry you can start painting your mini. Take your time and go slowly. You will be surprised the amount of detail you can get if you use a smaller fine tipped brush and take your time. Hold the bottom of the mini while you paint and keep from touching freshly painted surfaces to avoid smudging. Some lighter colors may take a couple of coats to get to the right hue you desire. Acrylic paint is nice because it dries quickly.

Secret Ingredient

Once you're happy with your paint job it's time to bring it to the next level. Wood stain will add shading and depth to your minis and will smooth out the texture.

Using a paint brush, completely cover your mini in wood stain.

Once covered, use a paper towel to remove as much stain as you can. By gently squeezing the mini with the paper towel you will avoid rubbing off any paint.

The remaining stain will add shading to your mini and really make it pop.

Finish

Finish the minis my spraying them with matte polyurethane or a clear coat of matte spray paint. Spray in a swooping motion across the entire front and back from about 6 inches away. Be careful not to spray too much on and cause dripping.

Enjoy!
