How to Make Amazing Homemade Breadsticks

In this instructable, I will show you how to make homemade breadsticks. These breadsticks are very similar to the breadsticks that you would find at Olive Garden. They are super easy to make and taste yummy! Follow the easy steps below or watch the video tutorial or do both! Let's get baking!

You may print the recipe here if you like.

Ingredients:

3 cups of Bread Flour

1/4 cup of softened or melted butter

2 Tbsp of granulated sugar

1 cup + 1 tbsp of water

1 tsp of active dry yeast

1 and 1/2 tsp of salt

Topping:

2 tbsp of melted butter

pinch of garlic powder or garlic salt

First lets heat up our water in the microwave until it reaches 105 to 115 degrees F. About 30 seconds. Now let's add our sugar to the water, then add our yeast and stir. Let it sit for about 5 o 10 minutes until it starts to get foamy on top. Then you will know the yeast is active and ready to be used.

Add Salt to Flour

Now let's add our salt to our flour and give it a good stir.

Now let's add our butter and yeast mixture to our flour, then stir it with a fork or wooden spoon. Until it looks about like the last picture. Don't try and mix it all together the whole way. We will finish that off while kneading.

Knead the Dough

Now let's knead our dough. Pour out the entire contents of the bowl to a clean surface. Leave some of the extra flour from the bowl to the side and add it as necessary to the dough while kneading. To knead, you push down with your palms, then fold it over, then turn it a half turn and repeat the process for about 10 minutes. It is a great work out! haha. Then we take a bowl and add some canola or vegetable oil to it and coat the sides real well. Next we add our dough to it. This will help it from drying out. Then add a damp towel over the top and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours. Until it doubles in size.

Shape Into Equal Parts

Now after it has risen. We elongate the dough and then separate it into about 12 equal parts. Depending on how large you want your breadsticks. Then using a Dough Cutter or knife cut the parts.

Roll Out the Bread Sticks

Now we take the dough and roll it in our hands so it gets long and thin, then place it on a sheet lined with parchment paper or an Artisan Mat. Then we let these rise for another hour.

Butter Bread Sticks

Now we preheat the oven to 400 Degrees F. While we are preheating the oven, we take about 2 tablespoons of butter and melt it. Then we wipe it on the bread sticks. This will help it get golden brown as well as add flavor. Then we put them in the oven and bake them for about 12 minutes, or until they are nice and golden brown.

Add Butter and Garlic Powder

Now once they come out of then oven, we add more butter, and then we add some garlic powder or garlic salt. You can also add parmesan cheese!
