I made an aluminum plastic pen mold, inspired by the aluminum pen made in Engineering 2. I was also informed that the plastic pens made from my mold could be used by students learning lathes in Engineering 1 or 2.

Supplies

You will need a Lathe

.75 aluminum stock measuring 5.2 inches

more .75 aluminum stock measuring 1.4 inches

.5 inch aluminum stock measuring 5.4 in

Make Your CAD

Modeling this pen helped me with the dimensions I needed for the pen to work.

Drill the Aluminum Pipe

Drill the .75 inch aluminum stock .5 inches all the way through

Tap the Small .75 Stock

1/2 tap the smaller .75 inch stock by around .45; it doesn't have to be precise.

Die the .5 Stock

1/2 die the .5 inch stock measuring 5.4 inches around .45 inches in. Putting Locktight on the connection is preferred, it is okay if you don't have it.

Turn Down the .5 Stock

Turn down the .5 inch stock to .234 up until .81 inches from the top, which you will turn down to .109.

Make a Press Fit

Make a tight press fit between the pipe and the stock you just turned down. The press fit has to have a diameter of more than .5 inches unless you want to drill into your screw-on connection. I did mine on .57 inches which works pretty well.
