Time to make a portable emergency/ backpacking candle out of a used Altoids tin.

Melt Wax

Get a couple of the little $0.99 candles from the local candle store.  I suggest citronella for camping.  Take the wicks out and cut the rest of the candle into wax chips.  Melt the wax chips using hot water... careful not to melt your containers!

Cover Holes

Put a couple of small pieces of aluminum tape over the hinge holes on the back (inside) of the tin.

Insert Wicks

Using double sided tape, put the two wicks into the tin.

Pour in Wax

Pour the now melted wax into the tin.

Trim Wicks

After the wax has cooled, trim the wicks short enough that the lid will close without hitting them.

Enjoy Your Portable "Altoids" Candle

Light the night with your portable candle!  By the way, the lid will fold up to a 90 degree angle giving you a reflector for your candle (the interior of the lid is shiny enough to do this).  This will allow you to direct your light to where you need it!

** Make sure you set it on a non combustible/ heat resistant surface.  The bottom of the tin gets hot to the touch if left burning for several hours.
