All Purpose Biscuit Mix

Are you tired of buying expensive Biscuit Mixs? Expecially Biscquick?

Here is a Solution. Ingredients are cheaper in the long run buying in bulk. And making what you need Homemade and Fresh.

Nothing beats the Freshness of Homemade items. And Homemade All Purpose Biscuit Mix is one of those items. All Purpose Biscuit mix can be used for many things.

Such as:

Biscuits
Pancakes
Waffles
Dumplings

This is just to name a few. Every since I've started making my own I've not bought any biscuit mix in many years, so I hope you enjoy this recipe and use it for your everyday needs, it's easy and simple to make!

Ingredients include:

AP Flour (All Purpose)
Baking Powder
Salt
Sugar
Crisco (Lard) (You can use Butter if you like, BUT, It has to be stored in the Fridge Lard Don't)

Items also needed:

Air Tight Container
Food Processor

Step 1: Add Flour

Add 5 Cups of flour.

It's Better to weigh out your flour if you have a Scale. If you use Measureing cups use 2. Use a 1 Cup measureing cup and a 1/4 Cup measureing cup. Scoop out the flour with the 1/4 cup and pour into the 1 Cup. This introduces Air into the flor, Flour can be compacted if just scooped up which leads to MORE Flour then 1 Cup.

I'm uncertain of the weight of flour, if I recall though, I think its 4.5 oz for 1 cup, just times that by 5 and you got your 5 cups of Flour by Weight.

Step 2: Adding Baking Powder

Add 1/4 Cup of Baking Powder

Sorry, I don't have many small containers, so I add everything to the Food processor, makes cleanup easier. In the photo if you can see it, On the bottom of the food processor is the 1/4 Cup of Baking Powder

Step 3: Adding the Salt

Add 1 tableshoop of salt.

Salt is on the bottom left of the Baking powder.

Step 4: Adding Sugar

Add 1 tablespoon of Sugar.

Sugar is to the right of the baking powder.

It don't matter where it's Placed LOL As long as it's in there.

Step 5: Adding Lard

20151107_081955.jpg

Add 1 Cup of Crisco Lard.

You can add Butter Flavored Lard or Regular Crisco Lard.

I choose Regular Crisco mainly because the butter flavor is to over powering to my liking. I can always add butter in if I need it but I can't take it out once it's in there.

So remember, it's easier to always add, but not easy to take away. I belive in NOT Wasting anything if we can help it, so if you aren't sure don't add it, or even add 1/2 and 1/2 if you like. Regular and Butter Flavored it will cut down on the butter flavor.

Step 6: Mixing

20151107_082528.jpg

Put your Food processor lid on and start pulsating the food processor until you get crumb texture, this lets you know that the Lard has been incorperated well enough.

You MIGHT have to Scrape the content off the bottom of the food processor bowl because it will pack it's self under the blade. And mix a little more. When pouring out into another air tight container, you will notice that there will be a hard puck of biscuit mix on the bottom, just take a butter knife or rubber spatula and scrap it off. Then break it up in smaller pieces by rubbing between finger and thumb.

I hope that you give this recipe a try and I hope you like.

For Pancakes.

Scoop out how much you want,
Add 2 Eggs
and Milk enough to make a Thin Batter

Fry in Bacon Grease for Maximum Flavor

For Waffles.

Scoop out what you need
Add 2 Eggs
Add about 3/4 Cup of Vegatable Oil more if needed
Milk to make a Batter

Add to Waffle Iron, If the waffles Stick, Add more Vegatable oil, Kind of a Trial and Error for that

For Biscuits.

Scoop out what's needed
Add Milk til it's thicker then Peanut Butter

Drop on Baking Sheet and Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes

For Dumplings.

Mix up like Biscuits

And drop in chicken Brown, Simmer til Dumplings are Fluffy and airy in the middle and no longer doughy.
