Hello there! I am participanting with my friends in competition organised by European Space Agency. Today I want to show you our project which we was preparing whole year on previous edition. This is satellite which allows us to show quality of air in our neighbourhood. We used Arduino to programme it and we put here gyroscope, GPS, temperature and moisure sensor, SD card module and air quality sensor. In this tutorial I would show you how to build this with all optional upgrades. You need a 3D printer or person who have it and components below

All components you need are:

(all links below are to polish sites, but you can easliy find them in local shops, ali or ebay)

-Adafruit Feather M0 RFM 96 LoRa Radio

-SD card module

-Dust sensor with adapter PMS7003

-GPS module

-Altimu 10v5

-4 batteries Lilion 14500 3.7V, 800mAh

-Temperature sensor Dallas 18B20

-Step-up regulator for PMS

-BME280

-limit switch

-lots of wires

-solder and soldering iron

-hot glue

-some long screws M4

-3D filament which is not black( our choose was PETG or PLA, both are good)

-tools like screwdriver, files etc.

How It Works?

This is a mini satellite which allows us to see air pollution in all places. We installed here temperature sensor, gyro, and more things which let us know actuall wheather. Construction is strong and only thing that can break is case. As you can see at the photos there is a parachute. If you have drone, you can drop it from any heigh. On SD you can read height, temperature and more! I tell you more on each step what sth is and how it works.

3D Print

All links below, there are in .3mf

We had done a lot of test and we printed the best can. As you see, there are a lot of damages but we had tested it throwing from heights. Don't worry, .3mf is complete and things won't broke and they looks better.

Soldering Circuit

When can is printing, you can start soldering. SD, Altimu and BME you need to connect on one soldering plate 45x45mm. On the first floor there are betteries, PMS and temperature sensor. On second floor there are Adafruit and limit switch. Third floor includes soldering plate with Altimu etc. Last floor is reserved to GPS module.

Edit: there is a mistake in circuit, you need to connect behind Adafruit and batteries a limit switch (NC entrance)

Batteries

InkedIMG_20210226_203220_LI.jpg

In can there are four batteries connected parallel to power input. You need to get copper plates and squeeze them out to fit in batteries. When you got it, using hot glue stick them into this places. Plus is at smaller, second floor/part of can. you need to connect both minuses and both pluses. From minus you need to run the cable through the slot of the post to Adafruit.

Building Up Everything

IMG_20210227_120128.jpg

Firstly, you need to stick limit switch on second floor like on picture using hot glue. Remember to And this is last thing you need hot glue. Seriously, if you dont throw it from window at third floor you dont need to use glue. But if you have a drone you can stick PMS and Adafruit to plastic and put behind batteries and PMS a small sponge. Adafruit connect to plastic using 4 small screws. Above is Altimu etc. Next is small plastic plate, GPS and lid. Everything twisted with M4 screws.

Code

There is a code.

If you have a problem, there is a tutorial:

https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-feather-m0-rad...

Libraries

You need to download official libraries in arduino IDE. Unfortunatly we lost this files so you need to find them on your own. Don't worry, if we find them we send them here

Parachute

DSC_1978.jpg

If you want to let off your can from drone, you can install parachute. All you need to know is that radius need to be more than 30 cm and less than 60 cm. At the top of it there are six holes where you can install parachute. But don't make it too big- bigger may doesn't work. If you have parachute but it's too big, just make hole in the center (radius 3-5 cm).

Practical Use

If you already built it or if you want to build it you need to know that you have portable weather station. Size of it is similar to Pepsi can. You can place it or drop it everywhere(high propability that it survive landing on concrete). If you want to have a original thermometer with aditional things or if you are hobbyst or if you are ecologist who want to see air polution, this project will be fitting to you :) If you want to know more about our project, check our Facebook page and yt for more:

Hope you enjoy project. If sth is wrong, write in coments

Have a nice day ;D
