Air Fryer French Fries

How to Make French Fries in Air Fryer.jpg

In this episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, I will show you how to make french fries in an air fryer. Air fryers are great kitchen gadgets that are pretty much like a small convection oven. The premise is being able to cook foods a bit more healthy, especially foods that are typically deep-fried like french fries. You still need to do a little bit of prep work with your potatoes just like you would if you were going to deep fry them. Air fried french fries are easy to make if I can do it you can do it, let's get started!

First, wash and peel your potatoes. You can use any potato that you like, I usually use Russets.

Cut and Soak

Next, it is time to cut up those potatoes into fry shapes. I have this handy fry cutter that I like to use. But you can certainly use a knife too if you like. Fill a medium to a large bowl with water and add some ice. Then add a couple of teaspoons of salt to the water. We are creating a cold brine for the potatoes. Put the potatoes in the cold water and let them soak for 20 to 30 minutes. This will take the starch out of the potatoes allowing us to get a crispier and tastier french fry.

Dry and Oil

Now we drain the potatoes and then dry them on a paper towel or fresh cloth. Place them in another bowl and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil. We just to barely coat the fries. They will taste better if you use the oil, but you can leave the oil off if you like.

The Air Fryer

Now set the temp on your air fryer to 350 F (176 C). Turn the timer on for 15 minutes. The air fryer will turn on. Let the air fryer heat up for just a few minutes. Slide the basket out and put in the potatoes. Slide it back in and cook for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes slide it out and give it a good shake and then put it back in.

Higher Heat

Set the temp to 400 and then the timer to 15 minutes. Once the timer goes off, slide out the basket and dump the fries onto a plate lined with parchment paper. Salt and flavor them however you like. Enjoy!
