Air Dry Clay Incense Holder

step 4.jpg

So I decided to make an incense holder out of air-dry clay because I wanted something that looked cute to hold my incense. I chose to make it out of air-dry clay because it's easier to use and you don't have to bake it.

Supplies

Supplies Needed

  • Yellow White and Green Air Dry Clay
  • Cup
  • Bowl
  • Newspaper
  • Measuring Tape
  • Ruler
  • Incense

Alternative

  • Any Clay Is Okay
  • Glue is only necessary if your clay doesn't stick together
  • Instead of a bowl, you can use anything circular
  • Modge Podge if you want a clean look to it

Preping and Making the Base

step 1.jpg

First, you are going to want to set some kind of paper on your surface area for easy cleanup. I used some newspapers. Now take a big chunk of the green clay and find something to roll it out to make it half an inch thin(you can just eyeball it). Then use a bowl or something circle to cut out a circle. Remove access pieces. Then take the access pieces and roll into a long snake until you got the length of the circumference of the circle you just cut out. Flaten and make a rectangle with the clay and make the dimensions with a length of the circumference you just measured and the width of 1 inch. Remove raining pieces and proceed to step 2.

Conecting the Bases

Next, you are going to want to connect the bases together with glue if your clay isn't sticky. Now for the holder, you get a smaller circle stencil and cut out a circle that is to your liking. I made mine look like a lilypad. Now stick it or glue to your base and be sure not to glue the middle of the holder because you will be sticking an incense through there. Next, after it is on your base grab your incense and stick a whole and leave it there for a little bit so it can be big enough. Move on to the next step.

Decorating

Next, you are making the flowers for decorations. Now take the white and yellow clay and with the white clay make 4 little balls. Flatten with a cup then take the yellow clay and make a ball half the size of the white and place it in the middle of the white clay and flatten that too. Do this 3 more times and glue or stick them in the bowl area.

Finishing Touches

Lastly, this is totally optional but if you want a nice finish I recommend using Modge Podge. And make sure to let it thoroughly dry and if there are any cracks in the clay you can use leftover clay to fill in the spots.
