Affordable Housing - Shipping Container Home

My name is Chiamaka, and I am a 9th grader at my current high school in the United States. The concept of affordable housing appeals to many people and businesses. Especially now, when homelessness is at an all-time high. However, the aesthetics of affordable housing are rarely considered as well as accessibility. So I've decided to incorporate these unpopular but vital ideas into affordable housing because everyone deserves an accessible home that is both affordable and appealing to the eye.

The supplies needed are very cost-effective and eco-friendly.

1. Shipping containers for the base of the home and roof
2. Plywood for the walls, cabinets, and doors inside the home
3. Bamboo for the flooring inside the home
4. Recycled steel for all the doors 
5. Oak wood for the window and door frames
6. Aluminum for all the fences
7. Fiberglass for the windows around the home and the door at the entrance 
8. Tress and bushes for the exterior
9. Recycled concrete pavers for the outside pathway
10. Paint to color the home

When I began designing the house, I planned out a layout that was accessible and pleasing. I also took the cost into account. This layout includes a path that is followed by trees and bushes to the entrance. Following that, there is a living and dining area, as well as one bedroom and a bathroom. Finally, there is a small backyard area for leisure.

I made the decision to combine the living room and kitchen. This helps to save space in the home, which helps to reduce costs. This living/kitchen room is easily accessible as it does not contain an area that can disable a person from accessing. There is also a window to bring in natural light, which is often found to be appealing.

The dining room is designed in a simple yet visually appealing manner. It has one dining table and two doors that lead to the restroom and the backyard. This room is not difficult to enter. Neither are the rooms to which the doors lead.

The bathroom has a seat in the shower, so people who cannot stand can easily access it. It also has an appealing design because the colors in the room complement one another.

There are two windows in this bedroom. They allow sunlight into the room, beautifying it, and one of them can be used to view the backyard. Because none of the furniture or the room itself is on an inaccessible level, this room should be accessible to anyone.

The final touches I added were bushes to the backyard area and a fence to the roof. These modifications were to help make the affordable home more appealing.
