Aetheria Circumducitur- a Steampunk High Voltage Lamp

Aetheria-Kupferkeller.jpg

Hi,
this is my first Instructable here on this Site. I hope you like my Constructions and Objects. Now, here is my " Aetheria Circumducitur". A high Voltage Lamp with a " Neon Geissler Tube ". Driven with a Tesla Generator and 5000 Volt. A rotating Cage turns around the Geissler Tube.

The Beginning

First we need something of Brass Ornaments and some divide from Lamps. Later we need Copper Tubes, a Micro Motor, Gears, a Geissler Tube, Tesla Trafo, Brass Screws, Switches and Cables, Wood Color, divides from Welding Sets, Springs of a Battery Support. Glue, Sticking Resin and good Nerves :))

Now we put two Ball Bearings into the Lamp Owners. One solo and one with a Gear. ( The third Pic.). The Gear must be cutting in Form of the Ball Bearing inside and attach briefly with quick glue. Later we use the Resin inside the lamp Owner and stick together but only around the Ball Bearings !!!!!!

Housing

I used Beech Wood for the Housing. Arrivals and Saw. Then a provisional join. It´s ok, we paint the Wood with Wood color. I used dark Nut Tree.

Motorizing

While the wood is at the dry, we prepares the Engine for the rotating Cage. Take a Head of a welding Torch and prepare it for 3 Cables. 2 for the Motor and one for the Geissler Tube Contact. It can be that must everything be drilled out depending on which torches were used. Prepare a Copper Tube for the Motor inside. Drill 2 small Holes. One for the Motorcable and one with a 2 or 3 mm Thread for a Screw to fit the Coppertube with the Motor inside at the Torch. It must be attached with the gear wheel suitably. Now we have the two Holders for the Geisslertube.

The Geisslertube was made from a good Friend in Germany and has a Lenght of 320 mm. Filled with Neon Gas.

This Tube needs necessarily about 5000 Volts and 10 Milliamperes. I used a Tesla Transformator who runs with 12 V.There are many different Tesla Transformers but a low Amperage is Important. Is the Amperage to high so begins a Cathodes Atomization which destroyed the Tube.

Please be Carefull with the Tesla Trafo !!!! It´s very Dangerous and Persons with a Pacemaker or a Hearing Aid can Problems get !!! The High Voltage is a Plasma that can burns your Finger and other Things. The cables from The Trafo to the Geisslertube must be very well isolated !!!!! Reproduction on your own Risk !!

The Assembly

Now we assemble all. In another Part from a Lamp we put two Switches. One for the Light an one for the Motor. Inside the Lamp Holders now looks the Cable. Over these Cable we put a small Acrylic Tube with a Battery Spring.

The Springs hold the Tube in their Situation and press it away from the Housing.

I hope you like this Instructable. Sry for the vew Deatails but i build this Lamp Months ago and i have no more all photos in addition.

Best Regards
