Advent Calendar Box

I make advent calendar boxes for my kids who thoroughly enjoy getting little candies and gifts each day from December 1st through December 25th.

The steps are rather easy if you have a table saw. If you don't have a table saw to make the dividers, maybe you can make the cuts using a hand saw or you may be able to find an organizer that already has 25 spaces.

I purchase a sturdy project box

I make dividers so I have 25 spaces in the box and I fill each space with candy, gift cards, money, and small gifts.

I glue wrapping paper to the face of the box and number each of the 25 spaces.

I add the lid and give the advent calendar box before December 1st.

Each day they rip open the numbered space and take whats inside.

Step 1: Purchase Organizer Box

This year I found these project boxes with lids.

These are 16.5 inches long, 11.5 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep.

Create Dividers and Fill

I use 1/8 inch hardwood board.

This works perfect since my table saw blade cuts are 1/8 inch wide so I can easily make the slits in the dividers to interlock them.

I cut 4 boards the length and width of the inside dimension of the box.

I then cut slots going 1/2 of the width of each divider and 1/5th of the length and 1/5 of the width boards so that when the 4 length and 4 width boards are interconnected, 25 cubbies are created.

After creating the dividers I fill each space with candy, small toys, gift cards and money.

Glue on the Wrapping Paper

I glue the wrapping paper to the face of each space by applying glue to the edges of the dividers and applying the wrapping paper. Trim off any excess.

Number the Spaces and Give the Box Away!

I use a marker to mark the locations of each space and number each one from 1 to 25.

Give the completed box to your loved one to enjoy!
