Adjustable Phone Stand

I made an adjustable phone stand. It has 3 different settings so that no matter what angle, you can still view the phone. I made this phone stand so that you can see your phone while you're working on your computer. Sometimes I don't want to have to hold my phone up while I'm working on my computer, so this would allow me to see both at the same time without any hassle or multitasking. Hopefully this helps make your life easier!

Supplies

  1. Access to a 3D printer + the color filament that you want it to be
  2. PRUSA Slicer app (MAC Download) (Windows Download)
  3. CAD Onshape Account (Website)
  4. A phone
  5. Yourself :)

Depending on the size of your phone, you might want to have the base be slightly wider or slightly smaller. For reference, this phone stand was modeled to hold an iPhone 11. *** ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE IN MILLIMETERS IN IMAGES***

a. You are going to start by making a angled shape that is sturdy, and tall. I made a triangular shape that is 180mm in height and about half a centimeter thick. After you sketch this shape, extrude it slightly longer than the width of your device. I extruded 75mm (7.5 cm).

b. Then we will make the head that the holder will be able to rotate around. I started off by sketching a circle with a 18mm diameter. Then extrude to the same width as the stand, 75mm.

c. Finally, we will make the grooves that will serve as the different angles for the phone to be held at. Sketch 3 circles whose diameter is 1.5 so that half of the circle overlaps with the base. Extrude these three circles, but make sure the settings say "remove" and not "add" so that it will create 3 grooves, not 3 bumps on the base.

Final product should appear as 4th image.

  1. start off with a rectangle that is the same width as the base (75mm) and a height of 140mm
  2. Extrude to be 2mm
  3. Make a small 6x75mm rectangle at the bottom (this will be what the phone rests on)
  4. Extrude 20mm
  5. Make a smaller rectangle within that rectangle that is 4x16mm (See images for correct spacing and location)
  6. Extrude 75 mm
  7. Sketch one small circle that is 18mm in diameter. Then sketch another circle, centered at the same place, that is 4mm wider (See image) ** MAKE SURE THIS IS ON THE BACK SIDE (NOT SAME SIDE AS THE PART THAT HOLDS THE PHONE)
  8. Extrude 75 mm
  9. Draw a shape that will cut out part of the circle (so that it can snap onto the base)
  10. Extrude *remove* 75mm
  11. Sketch a 1.5mm circle on the inside of the top (this will be what stops in the grooves for the settings
  12. Extrude *add* 75mm

If you have the same or similar sized phone as the iPhone 11, you can just print directly since I modeled this stand off of the iPhone 11.

STL FILES ATTACHED BELOW FOR PRINTING!

** Make sure you have PRUSA downloaded at this point**

If you are downloading from CAD-

  1. right click on the folder that you want to print
  2. select "export" and make sure the settings are as seen in image above
  3. click the blue "export" button
  4. go to your downloads and double click on the file (See image)

If you are downloading from my STL files-

  1. download the file
  2. go to your downloads and double click on the file (See image)

Once you double click on the file, it should automatically appear in the PRUSA app.

Then you should do the same with whichever part you haven't already downloaded. Once the second file is in your downloads, you can just drag it straight into PRUSA with the other file. Now you should see both files in the app. (see image above for what your screen should look like)

Assembly

Once your two pieces are printed, you are ready to assemble.

Snap the top circular part of the phone holder onto the head of the stand. Make sure the notch on the phone stand is in one of the grooves, and it is assembled! Adjust to the other settings by either lifting or lowing the phone stand to click into the other levels!
