I had been thinking about how to do this one for a long time. There are lots of quick and easy 2 piece beach chairs out there, but all incorporate horizontal slats and horizontal support bars.

My goal was to keep true to my Adirondack designs with the comfortable curved back and seat, yet make a portable beach chair that can fully recline into a different position.....it will hang on the wall as well !

By incorporating 1” dowels as support cross bars with heavy gauge brass furniture screws for extra strength, I was able to eliminate the common visible horizontal support bars. The one dowel rests in a 1/4” round groove to lock it into place in both positions. The seat is 16” wide and the back matches my regular Adirondack plan but shorter. I am 5’8” and can rest my head in the upright position, and yet someone 6’2” could do the same in the low position. You do not slide off in the low position, since the seat curves upwards.

Plans also include pictures and dimensions of the taper sled I use on my table saw, to cut the back slats and back support pieces. Dimensions - 19 1/4"W x 32"D x 35 1/2"H (50cmW x 81cmD x 90cmH)
