Clothes without pockets are dumb, especially during winter. My hands get so cold, and I just want a cozy pocket to put them in. When your pocketless jacket or pants are too cute to keep in the closet, simply string these on a belt to add pockets to your outfit and keep your hands roasty toasty warm.

Supplies

2 warm fabrics (about a 1/4 yard each)

belt

pins

needle

sewing machine

thread

scissors

paper

Sketch out the shape of the pocket on a sheet of paper as shown.

Cut it out and pin it to Fabric A with the fold on the long straight side as shown.

Cut about a third of the way down the fold from the top as shown.

Fold your work in half.

Cut two pieces of Fabric A that are 1/2" longer than the top of the pocket and 1.5" tall. If your fabric is extra bulky, it may need to be taller and similarly, if you your fabric is very thin, 1 inch may be enough.

Unfold the pocket with Fabric B side up.

Lay the Fabric A piece on the left side of the pocket face down and stitch.

Cut another strip of Fabric A that is 1/2" longer than the top of the pocket. This time though, the height is determined by the belt you plan to use. The height should be 1.5" plus the width of the belt. If you fabric is very rigid and has no stretch, you may want to add another 1/4" to be safe.

Lay the piece on the other side of the pocket right-sides together and stitch.

To make the pocket look more clean, use a needle and thread to stitch up the top edges where you folded over so many times. Don't sew up your belt hole.

Now, stitch Fabric A together along the curved edge.

Second Pocket

To make the second pocket, repeat all steps, but this time reverse the side of the pocket you place the belt loop on.

Enjoy
