Sound Module: The unit we used is not available anymore. Here are a couple you can still use:
The first is a 5 button that will give more options for sound. The second is a 2 button but how you add sound has changed. If you follow this instructable you should still get the basics on how to hack it to fit your project
5 Button: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Button-Push-Musical-Soun...
2 Button: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261815964488
Use the directions that come with the sound module to add sound to it.
Lets Look at the Board
Now lets look at the board. Notice that all the pins are grouped with a ground, shorting any one of the signal pins i.e. sig, will activate the sound on that pin. Each group can play an individual sound. One thing to look out for is P3 and P4. P3 is used to cycle through the play list that are on P0-P2. You could use this to make a rudimentary mp3 player as this would act as the next button. P4 plays what ever sound is currently on P3 this way you can use only 2 pins to play sounds in your project. Also the pins on P4 are reversed to the others. The ground is on the opposite side.
Download and Install the Software.
Now we are at a point where we need to add some sounds to the module. These steps will walk you through how to do it.
Download and install the software- http://bigdawgspromo.com/soundloader
Attach the Programmer
Attach the programmer to the board. Make sure that you have inserted the board correct. Should look like this:
Connect the USB
connect the USB connector to the computer.
Load the Sounds.
load the sounds you want to put on the module.
Sound Order
Make sure to put the sounds in the order you want the buttons to signal
Changing Sound Quality.
Now select the highest sound rate. You won't be able to add as many sounds but the sound quality will better.
Adding the Sound
Now you should have the sounds selected and the sample rate set. All that is left is to select the write button and it will program the sounds to the sound board. This is the last step to add sound to the board. Now go out there and make some cool things that have sound.
