Acoustic Guitar Cutaway

DSC_0199.JPG

In this Instructable i wanted to take a normal guitar and cut a section away for a certain look.as i already own a acoustic cutaway and eventually i will remove the acoustic fretts and put Jumbo fretts.

Step 1: Find a Guitar

I went out to our local second hand shop and picked up this Cort for a bargain.

Removed the strings as half of them where missing.

Step 2: Let the Fun Begin

After masking the corner i had to cut but dont have a band saw so had to make due with a hacksaw blade.

Step 3: Filling the Hole

After cleaning the edges, i used a piece of wood from a guitar i had cut up for another project.

To get the shape without damaging the off cut, i soaked it in some warm water for about 20 minutes and the slowly started shaping it to fit. Once it was in i used fishtank airpipe to bind it while i glued it in place.

I just used normal wood glue.

Step 4: Paint

After masking everything i gave the guitar a sand down with 600 gritt sandpaper, hung it up and when to town with the paint.

Step 5: Finishing Up

Finally everything was dry after sanding with 1500 to 2000 gritt sand paper, put a new set of strings and sound pretty much the same before i started the project.

Next up will be converting it to jumbo fretts and making it electric.

Thanks for looking.
