The Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Magnum (AWM) is a bolt-action sniper rifle made by the British firearm company Accuracy International designed for magnum rifle cartridges, including the .338 Lapua Magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum. It is a variant of the AW that was the basis of a family of sniper rifles using the Arctic Warfare name. The design details of the AWM variant are similar to the ones found in the basic AW rifle system. Compared to the AW, the AWM has a longer bolt to accommodate larger magnum-length cartridges. The bolt head, locking ring, and extractor and magazines were also revised to work with the increased size and operating pressures of magnum rifle cartridges. The AWM features a single stack 5 round magazine. The normal cartridges for this rifle, and and the ones which have been accepted by NATO for use in AWM rifles are .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum. The AW series is known for its reliability and performance in extreme conditions. In fact, as the name suggests, all AW snipers are made to withstand freezing cold temperatures, ice and snow. The materials and coatings used in these rifles are chosen to resist corrosion and maintain functionality in extreme cold. This ensures that the rifles don’t jam or malfunction when exposed to freezing temperatures. Due to all these features, many armed forces have adopted versions of the AW sniper rifle. The British Army uses the customised L115A3, a variant of the AWM. The German Army have also incorporated the AWM as the designated G22. The AWM is used by the Royal Marines for specialized operations. Lastly, the British Special Air Service (SAS) uses the AWM for counter-terrorist and battlefield roles. However, on September 9 2012, Accuracy International announced that the .338 Lapua Magnum was phased out and replaced by the AXMC sniper rifle. The bolt action of the AXMC was designed to be significantly stronger and more capable of handling higher chamber pressures and temperatures and thus higher bolt thrust safety compared to the AWM and hence is longer and wider. The AXMC magazine was also appropriately enlarged to function with .338 Lapua Magnum cartridges loaded to the C.I.P. maximum allowed overall length of 93.50 mm (3.681 in).

With all that said, whether read or not, I have created my own AWM. It is much upgraded to my previous AWM, with much more realistic features and designs. However the only downside is that it is a model and does not shoot. For this reason I will not provide instructions for the AWM. It features a nice muzzle break and a good quality barrel which is connected to a stable core. The magazine is also slanted at a nice angle, which proved to be a challenge to make. The grip and stock connection was definitely the hardest to construct. After long hours of work, it was finally finished. The thumbhole turned out almost perfectly and even the stock, down to the minute detail of a fake knob to adjust the shoulder part of the stock. I would like to know your thoughts of the AWM, and maybe suggestions on guns I will make in the future. I will consider all guns except like sten guns and muskets, not that any of you would want those. I am looking at an interesting one for my next instructable, this time a shooting gun with instructions. Stay tuned.
