Abstract : Very Low Cost Spirograph Using Laser

abstract.jpg

In this project we are going to build LASER SPIROGRAPH. We are constructing laser spirograph using laser pointers using external power source, motors, mirrors and switch boxes and potentiometers. This project explores elegant design variations for Spirographs to display Tweets. Our method consisted in first tweaking. Spirographs parameters using a laser-motor drawing tool we developed specifically. We then identified particularly interesting Spirographs patterns and gave them flower names to better recall and describe them: sunflower, daisy or chrysanthemum, to name a few. We further customized those patterns, and eventually combined them with other Spirographs to construct more complex ones. As those Spirographs patterns were well suited to segment time into hours or minutes with their “petals”, we investigated one particular

scenario: Those early results show that Spirographs can go beyond simple artworks and can effectively bear both attractiveness and structure, which make them perfect candidate for ambient display.

Laser Spirograph : Introduction

Spirographs are geometric curves repetition forming visually appealing patterns, while conserving a strong geometrical aspect, such as symmetries. Such patterns can either have explicit divisions similar to flowers, either have subtle ellipsoid, or the combination of both.

Components and Feasibility

I have build this spirograph at lowest price in Rs.1400 which is nothing but only 25$ approximately as shown in table image.I have used 10K pot and circular mirrors.

If you have used DC motors from toys and mirrors then it may build in only Rs.600 only. ($10)

Circuit Digram and Connections

1. Make connection in series with 5V DC power supplay.(you can use 3V/9V battery also,) .

2. Make sure that both mirror are mounted on the motor has angle of 90 degree to each other.

3.Laser are Pointed such that we gets reflection in-front of box as on the screen.

Different Patterns:

By adjusting POT 1 and POT 2 we are getting different patterns as shown in images.

I have got triangular, circular and heart shape by changing pot 1 and pot 2.

Thank You.
