AI-Enhanced Indoor Adventure Track! Right at your living room!

The idea is to set up a game using real-life obstacles and characters, that you already have at home.

By feeding photos of these obstacles into an AI tool, it will generate unique quests, missions, or puzzles for the players to solve. Each “level” is a challenge based on the obstacles, and completing them allows the player to advance through the game.

The purpose of the game is to bring to life anything that is inanimate and make it much more enjoyable and teaching as well for the child.

Don't let your cats interrupt :D

Supplies

To create this AI-driven Adventure Quest Track, you’ll need a few household items and some character figurines to build the setting. Each item in this list is flexible and can be substituted with similar objects you have around the house. The goal is to create a versatile, interactive scene with things lying around that you already have.

Here’s a list of the items I used in the following example:

  1. Stackable Boxes (shoeboxes or similar)
  2. Books
  3. Character Figures (Some statue, a figurine, a toy...)
  4. Decorative Items
  5. Pen and Paper
  6. A phone or tablet (or PC)

Searching for Items and a Worthy Arena at Home

Before you can begin your adventure quest, you’ll need to explore your home for interesting objects and find or even create a nice space for your track. Here’s how to get started:

1. Explore for Items with Character

Look for Unusual Objects: Search for items that stand out or have interesting shapes and details. For example:

Miniature Statues or Action Figures: Any toys that catch your eye.

Stackable Boxes and Books: These can be used as obstacles, platforms, or walls, adding height and variety to the track.

Unique Decorations: Like the diamond looking thing I found.

Look in Unexpected Places: Check bookshelves, storage closets, or decorative shelves for hidden treasures. Sometimes, best items can be found in places you don't usually search in (I found mine in the back room)

2. Find an Arena

• The best places for setting up your adventure track are large, flat surfaces where you can easily arrange items. Could be a long table, the floor or maybe a long shelf like I chose.

Example Setup

In the photos above, you’ll see a setup on a long shelf with various objects placed strategically. A combination of characters, statues, and books creates an interesting environment that the AI will be able to empower.

Now that your arena is ready and all items are placed, it’s time to get the help of AI to generate unique quests for each object and the overall setup.

Start by taking a wide shot of the full arena to give the AI a sense of the environment. Ensure the photo shows all key objects and characters, capturing any pathways, obstacles, or levels.

For each object or character that will have its own quest, take a clear, close-up photo. These could include:

Statues, figurines, or characters that represent heroes, guardians, or villains.

Objects that serve as obstacles (like a stack of books as a “mountain” or a shoebox bridge).

Any special items or “treasures” like the diamond thing, which could act as a quest reward.

Make sure to take good photos and multiple angles that can help the AI understand the item’s physical characteristics and add more context to the quest.

Now Use an AI tool that can interpret images and generate descriptive text, such as ChatGPT with image capabilities, this is the on I'm using.

Upload the images to the AI, and now you can use a premade prompt that will help the AI generate better results:

The prompt:

“Imagine a magical adventure game set in a mystical arena crafted entirely from everyday objects and household items. The arena is filled with heroes, guardians, obstacles, and treasures, each with its own role in a series of quests and challenges. Every item has a hidden purpose and contributes to the adventure, creating an immersive world for the player to explore.

Each object in the arena should come to life through a unique quest. Some may require riddles to be solved, some may challenge the player with physical tasks, while others may offer wisdom or guidance. The goal is to create an engaging quest journey that incorporates each object, making the game feel like a grand adventure where the player has to prove their wit, courage, and skill to progress.

The photographs include the scene and its key objects:

Using this setup, generate individual quests for each object that encourage the player to engage with the item and overcome a small challenge. Make each quest imaginative, with a sense of mystery and discovery, suitable for children or playful adults.”

If you don't like the quests, just ask for something else and give ideas of your own!

Example Quest Request for an Object:

• “Generate a quest for the [describe object, e.g., bronze Minotaur statue], positioned as a guardian in the arena. The quest should involve a challenge that tests courage or strength, like answering a riddle, performing a physical task, or solving a puzzle.”

Example Quest Request for a Guide Character:

• “For the [describe object, e.g., Einstein figurine], create a quest where the character offers guidance or wisdom, perhaps posing a riddle that the player must solve to advance further in the adventure.”

By the end of this step, you’ll have a set of unique, AI-generated quests for each object in your arena.

Now you can either write them down on the paper, like I did, or keep playing with it through your phone or maybe a tablet, something portable.

Final Step - Playing the Adventure!

Now that your arena is set up and the AI has provided you with quests, it’s time to dive into the adventure!

This is the funnel step so now all that's left is to have fun!

you’ll follow the quests for each item, solve puzzles, complete challenges, and progress through the levels of your unique indoor quest.

Here’s how to make the most of the experience:

Introduce the Adventure: Start by setting the mood. Tell a short backstory for the adventure.

Make sure to engage with the quests!

For each object or obstacle, read the quest aloud and interpret how to interact with the object.

Solve Riddles and Puzzles, Complete Physical Tasks, Make it Interactive!

Examples of Possible Quests:

  1. For the Buddha Statue: “To pass the guardian, answer this riddle: ‘What has keys but can’t open locks?’ (Answer: A piano)”
  2. For the Minotaur Warrior: “To defeat the warrior, you must stack three books without them toppling.”
  3. For the Infinity Gauntlet: “To claim the treasure, answer: ‘What is greater than the world, stronger than a king, and more valuable than gold?’ (Answer: Love)”

Keep Track of Progress and don't forget to take pictures of the adventure!

  1. Use a Quest Log: keep a small quest log or scorecard where you can note down completed quests. This is particularly fun if there are multiple players, allowing each to “earn points” or “unlock rewards” for completing their tasks.
  2. Create a Reward System: Consider small rewards for each quest completed, like “power-ups” or a “victory point” system.
  3. Make sure to take pictures to have a nice memory

Build up to the Final Quest

Create a final quest that involves reaching the “treasure” or completing a multi-step challenge that tests all the skills you’ve practiced along the way.

Celebrate the Victory!

Once the final quest is complete, celebrate! Take a “victory photo”!

Optional - Creating an Album

Creating a digital album is a fantastic way to save memories of your adventure and keep them easily accessible, to show off to grandma.

Just go to your Photo library, select all the relevant photos and add them to a new album!

Don't forget to send it on some family message group :)
