A Working Model of Well From Paper
This instructable is on a model of a well made from paper. A well can work by the pulley or wheel and axle mechanism. In this model I have used the wheel and axle mechanism for the working of my model.
The wheel and axle is a machine consisting of a wheel attached to a smaller axle so that these two parts rotate together in which a force is transferred from one to the other. The wheel and axle can be viewed as a version of the lever, with a drive force applied tangentially to the perimeter of the wheel and a load force applied to the axle, respectively, that are balanced around the hinge which is the fulcrum.

Making the Components of Well
1. The body of well
For making the body of the well use a strip of brown paper of length 20cm and breadth 8cm. Draw on the bricks on the strip to make it look artsy and shade using light brown colours near the lines of the bricks. Roll the strip and secure it using a tape or glue, paste this roll on a square sheet of brown paper of 8cm.
2. The bucket
For making the bucket use a strip of paper of length 10cm and breadth 2cm, roll it up and paste the edges using glue to secure it. For a handle cut a strip of paper of length 6cm and breadth 1cm and paste it on the bucket.

Making Components of Wheel and Axle
1. Making wheel and axle
For making the wheel and axle use a strip of paper of length 23cm and breadth 2.5cm. Roll it using a thoothpick or a ball point pen's refill ink, such that the rolled up strip is thick at half end and thin at the other half end, as done in the picture. This way wheel and axle can be made in one piece.
2. Supports for wheel and axle
For making the supports, 2 strips of paper of length 15cm and breadth 2cm each is required. Make a hole at 2cm from top of each strip using a punching machine.
3. Shed
Shed is not a part of the wheel and axle mechanism but it is the part of the well and hence it is to be made as well.
For making the shed use a piece of paper of dimension 8cm*8cm. Draw any pattern of a shed or as shown in the picture, shade it using a dark brown crayon and cut near the edge of the sheet in the pattern as shown in the picture.

Assembly
Now, for assembling of the components first paste the supports on the body of the well with the hole part at the top. Next, pass the wheel and axle into the hole. Now, make hole in the middle of the handle of the bucket, pass a thread through the hole and tie a knot at the end so that the thread won't come out. Roll the other end of the thread on the axle of the wheel and axle. Bend the portion of the wheel and axle left out of the support, first bend perpendiculary in downward direction then bend the last portion perpendicularly in the horizontal direction. Add the shed in the end. A working model of a well is ready!!
