A Vintage Side Table Makeover With a Fun Lace Effect

I like experimenting with paint and patterns, so when I heard that the Pantone colors of the year were a Tranquil and Serenity Rose, a soft blue and pink, I wanted to use them in a lace technique.

So I felt like a lucky duck when I spied this vintage side table at my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. The vintage side table has a charming shape, and I wanted to stay true to its delicate details when selecting the a main color for the sides, so I chose a soft grey called Piston. For the top I used a lace technique with Ballet Slipper and Ocean Breeze. But I think everything needs a bit of an unexpected edge, so I painted the inside a bold pink called Watermelon.

What do you think of this side table makeover?

Prep You Table.

I found this vintage side table at my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

When I channeled the DIY goddesses… they said this vintage side table needs a lace detail. I agree.

Before painting the side table, I used sand paper to open up the wood grains, and remove the finish.

After sanding, I wiped off the dust.

Add Some Paint!

Before applying the colors I chose for the side table, I primed the entire table with Krylon CoverMaxx.

I chose Krylon’s Piston grey for the sides of the side table.

For the top, I used a lace technique. First, I applied Ballet Slipper pink to the entire surface. After it dried, I covered the top with lace and then painted Ocean Breeze blue.

For a little extra fun, I chose Watermelon pink for the inside of the cabinet.

Since it’s a table, I used a clear coat to seal the lace pattern on top.

Table Makeover Complete!
