A Timeless Denim Button Clock
Time and creativity — both are priceless. And today, we’re blending them beautifully! In this project, we’ll turn an old piece of denim into a stylish handmade clock. Using a sewing ring, a sturdy cardboard base, and denim cloth, we’ll create the clock face. Instead of numbers, we’ll use buttons to mark each hour, giving it a playful and artistic look. Once the clock machine is added, this upcycled creation will not only tell time but also add a touch of handmade charm to your wall. So, let’s bring time to life with denim!
Supplies
- Sewing Ring (Embroidery Hoop)
- Cardboard Sheet
- Denim Fabric (from old jeans)
- Scissors or Cutter
- Wood Glue
- Scale & Marker
- Buttons
- Clock Machine Set (with hands & spindle)
- AA Battery
Preparing the Base Structure
- As we all know the Embroidery Hoop comes with two ring, one inner and one outer ring.
- First we’ll take the inner ring .
- The cardboard should be measure according to the inner circumferance of the small ring.
- Place the ring on the cardboard and carefully cut out the circle along the line — this will serve as the base support for our clock.
- The sewing ring gives a neat circular frame, while the cardboard adds stability to hold everything together later.
Adding the Denim Fabric
- Now we will add the outer ring.
- Take a piece of old jeans fabric and cut it slightly larger like 1 inch than the outer ring.
- Apply glue evenly over the jeans.
- Then gently fold the fabric edges neatly around the back.
- Finally, attach the cardboard circle to the back side of the sewing ring.
Marking the Hour Position With Buttons
- Once the base is ready, let’s mark where our clock numbers will go.
- But instead of using traditional numbers, we’ll do something fun and creative — we’ll use colorful buttons!
- Using a scale and a marker, lightly mark twelve equal spots around the edge of the denim circle and one in the centre for the hands to fix.
- Each button will stand in for a number, giving the clock a bright, cheerful look. Fix the buttons securely in place and ensure they’re evenly spaced to maintain balance.
Installing the Clock Mechanism
- Now, it’s time to bring your creation to life!
- At the center of the clock, make a small hole for the clock machine’s spindle. Insert the spindle through the hole from the back and secure it tightly.
- Next, attach the clock hands — the hour, minute, and second hands — carefully onto the spindle in the correct order.
- Once fixed, place a battery inside the clock mechanism, and you’ll see your hands begin to move!
Final
And there it is — our Denim Button Clock, ticking with creativity and style. What started as an old piece of jeans has transformed into a beautiful, functional décor piece. The denim adds a cozy texture, the buttons bring character, and the handmade touch makes it truly one-of-a-kind. This project reminds us that even the simplest materials can turn into something timeless when imagination meets effort. It’s a perfect example of how small ideas can turn simple materials into something timeless!
