A Simple Granny Square (That Anyone Can Make!)

In one of my school activities, we were taught how to crochet and knit. I seek this opportunity to share my passion for crocheting with you. This beginner-friendly Instructable will teach you how to make a Granny Square with simple and cheap supplies that you can easily find in the craft store. Hope you enjoy!
Supplies

- Yarn (medium weight that is good for beginners)
- Crochet Hook (check your yarn label for the recommended size— usually 4.5mm to 5.5mm)
- Scissors
Note:
- You may choose any colour of yarn that you like!
- The estimated time for making a Granny Square is 10-20 mins.
- After you learn how to crochet a Granny Square, you can make many of them and crochet them together to make a big blanket!
Make a Slip Knot and Chain 4

- Create a slip knot and place it on your hook.
- Chain 4 (ch 4).
- Slip stitch (sl st) into the first chain to form a ring.
Round 1

- Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet - dc).
- Do 2 double crochets into the center ring.
- Chain 2 (this makes the corner).
- Do 3 double crochets into the ring.
- Chain 2.
- Repeat the pattern two more times: [3 dc, ch 2].
- Join with a slip stitch to the top of your starting chain-3. You now have 4 sets of 3 double crochets and 4 corners.
Round 2

- Slip stitch into the next two stitches until you reach the corner space.
- Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), then 2 dc into the same corner space.
- Chain 2, and 3 dc into the same corner space again (this forms a corner cluster).
- Move to the next corner space:
- Do [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] into that space.
- Repeat around for all 4 corners.
- Slip stitch to the top of your starting chain-3.
Round 3

- Move to the nearest corner space with slip stitches.
- Chain 3, then 2 dc in the corner, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space.
- Now, for each side:
- In the side space between corners, do 3 dc (no chain).
- In the corner spaces, always do [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc].
- Continue around and slip stitch to finish.
If you are an absolute beginner in crocheting, then you might want to check out the video attached below. My video will guide you through the different types of stitches and what it looks like in every step. In my video, I am crocheting at moderate speed, so you may pause whenever you want to or if you need more time. Please feel free to ask me any questions or tell me if I have made a mistake somewhere!
